The striking Artemide designer lamp in the porch shines red for a good reason. Number 55 was once the Glencairn Hotel, known by everyone, who made it their business, to be the local brothel. But, no cause for concern– with its total restoration in 2004, history’s history. The red light, however, still shines bright at the door to remind us of a colourful past.
Hotel 55 has been lovingly rescued from its former indiscretions, thanks to the inspiration and dedication of an industry acclaimed team of specialists. Buchanan Associates, leading hospitality architects, laid down the blueprint, which Italian designer Babettli Azzone brought to life with such care and flair under the auspices of “Britain’s Best Home” presenter, Daniel Hopwood. All furniture is bespoke and further enhanced with interior finishes by “Based Upon”,who worked on the new Nobu restaurant in Berkeley Street. The landscaping and garden design was by T J Landscapes, who are responsible for the much-acclaimed Regents Park garden of the American Ambassador’s residence.
